As defined by the American Nurses Association, professional nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and high-risk health problems. The Associate Degree Registered Nursing Programs at Grossmont College prepares men and women for national licensure to practice professional nursing in critical, acute, chronic, ambulatory and home health care settings. For students without previous nursing education, the nursing courses cover four semesters plus the prerequisite science courses. Nursing science didactic is coordinated with laboratory experience in local hospitals and health agencies under the guidance of nursing faculty members. In addition to the nursing courses, the major requires selected general education courses from the natural, behavioral and social sciences. A special application for this major is required. Applications to the Nursing Program will be accepted for both programs after prerequisite requirements are met.
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is used as part of the admissions process by Nursing and Allied Health programs nationwide. On August 31, 2016 an updated ATI TEAS will be released. Students taking the exam on or after August 31, 2016 will need to purchase the 6th edition of the TEAS study manual.
The 6th edition of the TEAS exam is required to apply to the Grossmont College Nursing Program beginning with the spring 2017 application period. Only the first attempt of the 6th edition will be accepted for points towards your application.
Admission to the program is based upon the California State Chancellor’s multi-criteria screening tool, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS ) score, degrees, work experience, life experiences, and second language proficiency. See grid for the new multi-criteria and point values for admission screening purposes. Please see Applying for complete information.
