Gosnell Memorial Hospice House
Hospice of Southern Maine is the only non profit Medicare certified agency with an inpatient hospice facility serving Cumberland and York Counties. The 18-bed Gosnell Memorial Hospice House was designed to meet the unique needs of patients with a life-limiting illness.
The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House is not a hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation center. It is a comforting, homelike atmosphere where you and your loved ones can share time together while symptoms are being managed.
We provide professional nursing and medical care to manage pain and distressing symptoms that cannot be managed at home. If the clinical condition improves, the patient may be able to return home.
We provide frequent and ongoing assessment and intervention to in-patients during their stay.
Our patient’s private suite becomes home with a kitchenette, a dining table for individually cooked meals and a sofa bed.
- A living room with a fireplace
- A dining room for families to gather in
- The Grief and Loss Library
- Landscaped gardens and trails
- A Sanctuary and several quiet places for reflection
- Spa and other amenities for patients
- Wireless internet connection

The Gosnell Family’s Generous Gift
The five children of the Gosnell family united to donate $1 million to building hospice care in Maine. As our top donors, they chose to honor their parents by naming the house after them: The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
